I’ve always been on the fence about whether or not I like rap/hip-hop but when an artist like MC Lyte (Lana Moorer) puts out work, I have no doubts.
Lyte’s limited release vinyl album Legend is infused with the nostalgic, signature sound of her earlier work and is driven by a current, memorable, impacting messages. Every minute of listening moves your heart, mind and soul–that’s good, no that’s great hip-hop.
Dear John is my favorite track on this release. A few of the lyrics that struck with me:
